CZ DUTY 4.0 F

A striker-fired 9mm is not an elk gun, but nearly every Treasure Valley household that owns a rifle also wants a pistol by the door, and CZ's new DUTY 4.0 is the current answer. Boise and Nampa buyers get a 9x19 service pistol with a serialized internal chassis, a fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame that is modular, and a direct-mount optics-ready slide with fixed sights. The barrel is 4 inches and not threaded.

North of the valley, from Emmett and McCall up to Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry, and over to Salmon, people tend to size up: the DUTY 4.0 F is the full-size with 17+1 (19+1 using the extended base plate), 780 g and 143 mm tall. The DUTY 4.0 C is the compact at 15+1 (17+1 extended), 770 g and 135 mm. Both come with or without a manual thumb safety as MS models. The trigger is CZ's refined SFDA at 5.6±0.9 lbs with 9±1 mm travel and a 4 mm reset. MSRP $729.

This is the longer grip of the two DUTY frames. It holds 17+1 rounds, 19+1 with the extended plate, stands 143 mm (5.6 in) and weighs 780 g (27.7 oz) unloaded. Same slide, same 4-inch barrel as the short-grip, so the sight radius is identical; you buy the F for the grip and the extra rounds.

Where the P-10 had a serialized polymer frame, the DUTY 4.0 moves the serial number to an internal modular chassis. That is the headline. The rest follows the modern service-pistol formula done carefully: a striker SFDA trigger at 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) (4 mm (0.16 in) reset, 9 ± 1 mm (0.4 ± 0.04 in) travel), a 188 mm (7.4 in) long slide with direct-mount optics cuts, fixed sights and a 4-inch barrel without a thread.

This version has no external safety lever. It relies on three internal safeties, firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger-bar safety, and the trigger is the same as on the MS model. Shooters who prefer a lever should pick the MS.

Who is it for: the belt, the nightstand and the range; the version to buy if you rarely need to hide the gun. If you already shoot a P-10, the DUTY is the next step in the same family, with a new chassis and the optics done right.

Idaho has no permit to purchase and no waiting period. Pick the Idaho dealer you want at checkout, in Boise, Coeur d'Alene or any small town in between, and the DUTY 4.0 ships to that FFL. The background check happens at your dealer's counter when you pick up. Ammo and gear ship to your door. Stock and price are verified live as part of the order, before you pay.

Questions buyers ask: Do I need a permit to buy a handgun in Idaho? No. Idaho has no permit to purchase and no waiting period; the dealer you choose runs the background check when you pick up. Which red dots fit the DUTY 4.0 slide? The slide is direct-mount optics ready. CZ's own photos show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield red dots fitted without a plate. How many rounds does the CZ DUTY 4.0 F hold? 17+1 with the standard magazine and 19+1 with the longer base plate.
